Maarten SchaddeleeMaarten Schaddelee is a sculptor who is deeply passionate about life. His enthusiasm bursts through his work which depicts the beauty of our environment and our co-existence with nature. Originally known and collected worldwide for his whales, eagles, dolphins and seals Maarten’s work now include his “Lyrical” pieces which highlight his love for “chasing the curve” and the beauty of form and motion. He is fluent in both wood and stone Born in Soest, Holland in 1947, Maarten emigrated with his family to Victoria in 1955 and became a full-time artist and sculptor in 1991. Many of his sculptures can be seen throughout Victoria including The Hand of Peace on the Victoria Hospice rooftop garden, Millenium Peace on Clover Point overlooking Victoria’s magnificent waterfront, and When Peace Comes (honouring the Canadian Forces) in the lobby of the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. |
Maarten has received local and international attention for the freedom and fluidity his work imparts and his sculptures have been chosen for sister cities in Suzhou, China, Morioka, Japan and Khabarovsk, Russia.
